As if!!!
That is how this publisher ended up on the couch for the
night.
Oh it had nothing to do with extra marital shenanigans
My crime?
I sold the ONLY
remaining copy of the first book we ever published and it just happened to be
my wife’s.
I am talking about Secrets of Ancient Magic, which was the
predecessor to Magic That Works.
I mean yeah sure we got a pretty penny for it at the time from
a collector who knows the value of an exceptionally rare book.
That wasn’t going to fly with her.
Oh no siree bob…
Especially when she realized I actually LOST the original
PDF’s in a computer crash.
The book was gone forever!
That was more than a year ago.
Imagine my surprise
when I get a call from one of our distributors. Telling us we are getting a
return of 5 copies of this book in pristine condition.
Eh? The title went out of print 3 years ago. Industry return
stipulates maximum of a year’s return. Not only that, but we also made it CLEAR
to them that any returned books had to be destroyed. We ain’t paying for
postage and duty.
Apologies…apologies…..sure we got them. Man that was the weirdest thing that happened
to me in my publishing career.
Still now I have 5 copies of a book that was cancelled after
we sold 50 copies. A book that is exceptionally hard to get. It is so rare that
a couple of years ago – copies were selling for $200 used by second hand
sellers.
People still google for this book or email us asking about
it. ‘Good luck finding one’ is what we used to tell them.
Man…someone has done some serious mojo to get a copy of
this.
Cause now not only is there 1 copy but 5.
Ooops…one has to go to my wife with a big dinner apology.
That leaves 4 copies.
Those books have now been signed for even MORE value.
